basera.id- The 57th cairo international book fair is the world second largest book fair also the most influential literary event in the Arab world helds 14 days from 21th January 2026 until 3rd February 2026 attended by more than five million visitors it was under the theme “whoever stops reading for an hour falls behind by centuries”.
This book fair has been held annually since 1969, and this year marks the largest edition in its history hosting 1.457 publishers from 83 countries, with Romania as the guest of honor and celebrate Naguib Mahfouz as the “Personality Of Fair” he is an egyptian figure with an enduring legacy in world literature. This Book Fair also enriched by intellectual seminars, book signings, hundreds of cultural and artistic events involving creative and intellectual figures worldwide, especially from Arab countries.

The exhibition consists of five large halls containing various type of books ranging from academic books, religious books to fiction novels. Plus one special hall called “Suur Azbekiya” which sells used book where visitors can find something that no longer in print today and offering a wide range of books at affordable prices.
Although around 80% of the audience is young people there’s also a lot of elderly visitors showing their love for books even if they had to travel long distances to buy large volumes of books. This stands as a reminder to those who have not yet embraced reading as a habit.
The Cairo international book fair is an annual event awaited by diverse groups of people, who often save their money in the previous months to spend on rare books or those published abroad. It reflects the depth of literary culture among Arab readers also serves as a hub for intellectual exchange and networking.
